Several new laws will go into effect, Sunday, in Indiana. One of the laws will impact everyone in the state. It is the new and improved seat belt law.

"In the 23 years I've been on the state police, not one time have I unbuckled anyone that has ever been killed. All the people that have died in car crashes or seriously hurt was because they weren't wearing their seatbelts," said Sgt. Ray Poole.

Beginning Sunday, buckling up will include everyone in Indiana no matter what type of vehicle you drive.

The new law now encompasses drivers and passengers of pickups, SUVs and minivans. Previously, motorists with a truck plate were not required to wear a seatbelt.

The new law requires all drivers to buckle up, however it restricted law enforcement from setting up seat belt check points. Car seat check points were an easy way for officers to ticket seatbelt violators, but not anymore.

Wearing a seatbelt can mean the difference between living and dying. If you or a loved one has been injured in a car accident, you can use the form on the right to contact one of lawyers for a free consultation.
