A car accident, on Tuesday, claimed the life of an Elizabeth man, 44, according to police.

He was traveling northbound in his 1996 Toyota pickup truck, on Indiana 62, when he veered off the roadway north of the Indiana 11 intersection. The truck went over an embankment and crashed into a tree, said a news release by Floyd County Police.

Police believe his death may have been prevented if he had been wearing a seatbelt. The accident is still being investigated, but preliminary reports show wet roads are likely a contributing factor.

Members of the Indiana State Police, through a partnership called the Floyd County Combined Accident Reconstruction Team, also responded to the accident. Members of that effort have been trained in accident diagramming.

Yellow Ambulance, the Floyd County Coroner's Office and Georgetown Township Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
