A car accident involving two vehicles on Sunday left one woman hospitalized in critical condition and two other people with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman, 19, was driving northbound on Indiana 63, south of Lombardi Drive when, her car left the roadway for reasons still unknown as officials investigate the cause of the crash.

Witnesses say she over-corrected which then caused her Mustang to turn sideways and travel left of the center line and into the path of a Chevy van, driven by a man, 45. Her vehicle was struck by the van.

The man has to be extricated from his vehicle along with his passenger. All three were transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital, and the woman was later taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis due to the serious nature of the injuries she sustained. On Monday, she was listed in critical condition.

State Police issued a report stating the roadway was wet at the time of the accident, but did not indicate if road conditions were a contributing factor of the crash.
