A woman escaped a potentially fatal crash in a car accident with a moving train.

The woman was traveling south on County Road 300E, when her 2000 Chevy Blazer collided with a train for reasons still unknown.

"She was traveling southbound on 300E when for an undetermined reason she struck the train," said Helms.

The train, owned by Toledo, Peoria, and Western Railway, was traveling westbound at the time of the accident and came to a stop after the contact was made. The rural crossing at which the accident occurred was marked with white railroad crossing "crossbuck" signs on either side of the track.

The driver was alert and awake in her vehicle when officials arrived. She is lucky she did not have severe and extensive injuries. She broke both legs in the crash and was transported to White County memorial Hospital and then later taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
