A mandatory helmet law for Hoosier motorcyclists is once again up for consideration. Thomas Wyss, Indiana State Senator, says if a new helmet law is proposed, he will hold a hearing to investigate motorcycle accident statistics.

One motorcyclist said there is no excuse for people to not wear a helmet while on their bike. With motorcycle deaths raising 80% over the last ten years, many riders feel it is important to wear a helmet while riding.

The current laws in Indiana say people that are 18 or under are the only riders that must wear a helmet. There are currently 20 states, including Washington DC, that enforce laws requiring helmet use.

Florida, another state that does not require motorcyclists to wear helmets, recently launched Ride Proud. Dress Loud. A campaign designed to encourage bikers to wear bright clothing so other motorists will see them on the road.
