A woman is suing Schnuck Markets Inc. in excess of $50,000, after slipping and falling on standing water in the grocery store.

On November 6, Erica Wilson was walking near the refrigerator nearby the salad bar when she slipped on water, which caused her to fall and allegedly injure her neck, shoulder and lower back, according to the complaint filed on December 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

The suit also claims she has incurred medical expenses, lost money from loss of wages, pain and suffering and disability.

The establishment was negligent by failing to provide a good, safe and proper place for Wilson to walk, by failing to have a safe procedure for the cleaning and removing of water from the floor and by failing to post warning signs, claims the suit.

It also negligently managed its store in such a manner to allow water to accumulate and stand in an area where customers normally walk, allowed the premises to become and remain in an unsafe, defective and dangerous condition, failed to manage, inspect, clean and maintain the premises and failed to maintain its refrigeration equipment in good working order, according to the complaint.
