Interstate 65 experienced delays for more than 4 ½ hours on Wednesday, following a five-vehicle accident and diesel spill north of Indiana 26.

The crash happened at 9:30 a.m. when a semi-trailer driver, 59, of Talbot, Tennessee, struck another semi-driver, 60, of North Liberty, from behind, according to a deputy of the Tippecanoe County Sherriff’s Department.

The truck was sent spiraling across the highway into a concrete barrier on the opposite side of the bridge, before bouncing back cross the highway, striking the semi-again and sideswiping a third semi-truck and another car, which in turn struck a fifth vehicle.

No serious injuries were reported.

The interstate was closed for over four hours while crews worked to clean up diesel spilled from one of the semis. The other semi was transporting corn syrup.

Officials believe the cause of the crash was related to the thunderstorm. The truck driver from Talbot, who set of the series of events that led to the five-car crash, was cited in the accident for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
