Indiana Trucker Injured After Shock From Power Line

A truck driver was shocked and critically injured when a grain silo he was hauling on a flatbed truck, hit an overhead power line in Hancock County.

Donald Beck, 39, of Shelbyville, was traveling on a rural road near Maxwell when the accident happened, according to Hancock County authorities.

Beck was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, in Indianapolis, in critical condition with burns.

The silo, which was sideways on the truck, got tangled with live wires overhead, police said. The driver was shocked when he climbed on top of the silo to untangle the wires.

Beck, who worked for Carl R. Moore Construction Co., did not have a permit to haul the oversized load. According to police, the load appeared too high on the flatbed.

The accident is being investigated by the Indiana Department of Labor and Indiana State Police.

Driver Cited In Tanker Explosion

The driver of a propane tanker that overturned and exploded last week, has been ticketed.

Ronald Tobias, 73, was cited on Monday for unsafe lane movement and for driving too fast to avoid a collision, according to Indiana State Police. The maximum for each fine is $500, but Tobias and/or his company could face insurance costs for damage and repairs to the highway which easily exceed $1 million.

The accident forced the closure of interstates 465 and 69.

The state Department of Transportation says there does not appear to be any structural damage to the bridge under which the tanker exploded.

"Everything points to this being an issue of driver error, and that's based upon people that witnessed the crash, as far as how they discussed how he was driving right before the crash occurred," said ISP 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten.

The investigation, which involves the National Transportation Safety Board, is ongoing.

Nestle Driver Killed In Semi Accident

A driver was killed in a truck accident on Tuesday when two semitrailers collided at U.S. 31 and Indiana 28, according to Tipton County Sheriff deputies.

A truck, driven by Bill Maseman, 38, of South Carolina, was transporting milk products from the Anderson Nestle Plant, heading west on Ind. 28, when he allegedly entered the intersection at the same time as a truck carrying drywall.

The westbound truck ran head-on into the flatbed of the northbound truck, destroying the cab of the westbound truck and killing Maseman, said deputies.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 31 were closed down for more than six hours.

The driver of the northbound truck and his passenger were not injured in the crash.

Maseman drove for Continental Express of Sidney, Ohio, which is a contractor for Nestlé, according to Pam Krebs, spokeswoman for Nestlé in Anderson.

Semi Truck Driver Cited For Speeding

A semi flipped on its side early this morning. Several hours passed as crews worked to clean up the roadway following the truck accident.

The ramp from I-465 southbound to I-70 was closed for more than an hour.

According to Indiana State Police, the driver, Touby Thong, was driving too fast as entered the ramp causing his tractor and trailer to overturn.

Thong became trapped in the crash and had to be extricated by the fire department. After they freed him, he was taken to Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It was two or more hours before crews were able to upright the semi and remove the wreckage from the highway.

Police ticketed him citing excessive speed.

Tanker Truck Overturns On I-65 In Indianapolis

Portions of Interstate 65 in Indianapolis were shut down on Wednesday, following a truck accident, when a tanker truck transporting 8,500 gallons of fuel overturned.

Southbound I-65 on the south side of Indianapolis was reopened after six hours and traffic was backed up for nearly eight hours.

A second tanker truck arrived to drain the fuel from the truck before it could be moved from the highway, Indiana State Police said.

According to authorities, the truck driver was not seriously injured when the truck overturned.

Heavy rain was falling at the time, but troopers were not able to immediately learn the cause of the crash.

A separate accident shut down I-65 for several hours Wednesday near Seymour, sixty miles south of Indianapolis, when a refrigerated trailer caught fire.

Tractor-Trailer Accident Shuts Down Highway For Nine Hours

A semi tractor-trailer hauling nearly 200 pigs left the highway and struck several utility poles causing Ind. 28 to close and power to be knocked out for more than eight hours, according to Delaware County police.

The driver, 22, of Lebanon Ohio, told police he felt the trailer begin to sway before the truck ran off the side of the road and struck four utility poles. The accident happened near Delaware County Road 100-W just after 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

The truck accident caused a nine hour power outage and the highway to close past midnight. In an effort to avoid colliding with the tractor-trailer, another vehicle ran off the roadway.

The truck was registered to Kremer Family Farms, of Ansonia, Ohio, according to police.

In September, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management issued a notice of violation accusing Kremer Family Farms of polluting waters of the state through a manure release in early August at a Randolph County hog farm.

Kremer allegedly failed to adequately respond to the manure spill, failed to timely report the spill to IDEM, allowed manure to be applied to the land as fertilizer when soil and weather conditions were unsuitable, and committed other violations.

Accident Slows Traffic Near South Bend

An early morning truck accident west of South Bend, on Sunday, slowed Toll Road travelers.

The accident, involving a semi-truck and car, happened three miles west of the St. Joseph Valley parkway exit at mile marker 72. The accident was reported at 2:45 a.m.

According to Indiana State Police at least one person was injured in the accident. Those injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

The vehicles landed in the median, police said, after the first information that the accident was in the westbound lanes.

Authorities were expecting periodic traffic delays while rescue crews worked at the scene, said Indiana State Police. The accident is still being investigated.

Toll Road Closed After Tanker Truck Explodes

All lanes of traffic on the Toll Road were shut down after a tanker truck exploded early Tuesday morning, according to Indiana State Police.

Emergency medical teams and helicopter were working near the Bristol toll exit at mile marker 101 at 5:20 a.m., because he semi-truck and pickup truck crashed, trapping two people in the pickup. But, one truck also struck a tanker truck, causing it to explode.

One accident victim was airlifted from the scene. The helicopter than came back to pick up a second victim that suffered burns in the accident, according to ISP.

Due to icy conditions on the highway, a state trooper responding to the accident call crashed into a highway maintenance truck also working at the scene. The officer was not injured in the crash.

Greenfield Woman Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash

The driver of a 2003 Ford Mustang, involved in a three vehicle tractor-trailer crash, has been identified as 22-year-old woman of Greenfield, Indiana. Her family has been notified.

The accident occurred on I-465 nearly mile marker 40 on the east side of Indianapolis and involved the Mustang and two semi-tractor trailer trucks.

A preliminary investigation shows the Mustang was traveling southbound in the left lane of I-465 when her vehicle struck the back end of a green 2007 Peterbuilt tractor trailer. After striking the semi, the Mustang swerved right and struck a gray 2003 Freightliner tractor trailer.

The second impact caused the Mustang to roll over. The driver was not wearing her seatbelt which caused her to be ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both truck drivers were wearing seatbelts and were not injured in the accident.

Motorcyclist Killed in Accident with Tractor-Trailer

An Indiana motorcyclist, 44, was killed when his motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer truck on the city's south side, according to Indiana State Police.

The truck – motorcycle accident happened on Tuesday, just before 4:30 p.m. at 23^rd and Iowa Streets. The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Clinton parkway when the truck, traveling westbound on 23^rd, turned south onto Iowa Street, according to police.

The intersection was closed for over six hours following the accident. State police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

This crash is the second fatality to happen in three days in Lawrence. On Saturday night, a man, 66, was killed when his moped crashed with a city bus near 6^th and Arkansas Streets.
