Toll Road Closed After Tanker Truck Explodes

All lanes of traffic on the Toll Road were shut down after a tanker truck exploded early Tuesday morning, according to Indiana State Police.

Emergency medical teams and helicopter were working near the Bristol toll exit at mile marker 101 at 5:20 a.m., because he semi-truck and pickup truck crashed, trapping two people in the pickup. But, one truck also struck a tanker truck, causing it to explode.

One accident victim was airlifted from the scene. The helicopter than came back to pick up a second victim that suffered burns in the accident, according to ISP.

Due to icy conditions on the highway, a state trooper responding to the accident call crashed into a highway maintenance truck also working at the scene. The officer was not injured in the crash.
